My name is Lenny O’Brien, I’m running in the Beausoleil-Grand Bouctouche Kent riding as Leader of the Consensus NB Party.

My parents were both born in these eastern New Brunswick ridings and are buried in them. I grew up and lived here much of my life. I am a retired IT Senior Systems Analyst, Data Analyst, Project Manager, Help Desk Manager, Software Designer, and Technical Writer.

My perspective on the depth and magnitude of the issues the people of New Brunswick face today are directly rooted in long-standing structural governance flaws especially evident in the red/blue party politics shamelessly displayed year after year in our province for decades. New Brunswick has become overly centralized, bureaucratically bloated, and corporately co-opted, increasing to the detriment of the vast majority of the people who live here.

Consensus governance offers the structural solution for the People of New Brunswick to have a real voice and greater control over how our government operates. It offers the opportunity to decentralize decision making and remove the party politics games that has plagued our province for decades in dividing and manipulating people for power and political gain. The people have suffered for decades yet the political games continue, election after election after election. And it just gets worse year after year.

The party system is an adversarial postured 19th century relic attempting to maintain relevance in the 21st century. It is outdated and technically corrupted, unable to respond to the magnitude of the problems we face today. We need to return to a people first operating system where people are listened to and most importantly heard. The old party system has a central operating system with a single central processing unit(CPU) that is overloaded. Consensus offers a decentralized operating system with multiple CPUs working in unison, that is non-adversarial nor confrontational, where all 49 MLA’s work together each for the constituents of their riding, bringing issues and priorities to Fredericton and the legislature.

With all 49 MLA’s working together rather than fighting each other the productivity of legislative activity is vastly improved, and the people are better served. Consensus offers shared priorities and unified solutions in longer term planning cycles, free of the detrimental effects of party and partisan politics. Debates are civilized, productive and focused on results which are fairer in the distribution of resources across all regions while still maintaining fiscal responsibility. Accountability and transparency become the responsibility of each MLA to their riding constituency, the whole operation of government operates around the whole population rather than corporate lobbyists, back room deals and political friends.

A vote for consensus is not about party, is not about politics, it’s about people. Let’s end party politics together! Let 2024 be the year for real change in New Brunswick!
